The County Government has taken a significant step toward strengthening healthcare delivery through strategic partnerships, Governor James Orengo has announced. Speaking during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Lwala Community Alliance, Governor Orengo emphasized that collaboration with health sector players is critical to improving healthcare services, especially in the face of persistent budget constraints. “Provision of quality healthcare services to our people requires strong partnerships to supplement our ever-constrained healthcare budget,” the governor said. The five-year MOU was signed alongside Lwala Community Alliance Kenya Chief Executive Officer, Julius Mbeya. Lwala Community Alliance is a non-governmental organization currently operating in 15 counties, focusing on identifying, supporting, and evaluating community health challenges. Under the agreement, Lwala Community Alliance will invest approximately KSh 150 million annually to support primary healthcare services. The funding will go toward training and equipping Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and other primary healthcare personnel, purchasing assorted essential health products, and strengthening maternal referral systems within communities. A key focus of the partnership is improving maternal and newborn health outcomes by ensuring timely referrals and access to quality care for expectant mothers. Governor Orengo noted that the collaboration reflects the county’s commitment to people-centered healthcare and sustainable solutions that directly impact communities at the grassroots level. “This partnership will enhance service delivery and ensure our mothers and newborns receive the care they deserve,” he said. The agreement marks a major milestone in advancing community-based healthcare and underscores the importance of public-private and non-governmental collaboration in achieving better health outcomes for citizens.
