Ugunja MP Moses Omondi Assesses Extensive Damage After Violent Strike at Ambira Boys High School

Ugunja Member of Parliament Hon. Moses Omondi has expressed deep concern following the extensive destruction caused by a violent student strike and rampage at Ambira Boys High School on the night of May 18–19, 2026.

The MP, accompanied by Subcounty Director of Education Mr. Bonface Otula, Chief Principal Mr. Boaz Adit, BOM Chairman Mr. Eliud Onyango, area MCA and Majority Leader Hon. Edwin Martin Otieno, members of the school board, teachers, and government security officials, toured the institution to assess the scale of the damage.

According to the leaders, several key facilities within the school were severely affected during the unrest. The destruction targeted dormitories, the computer laboratory, the principal’s office, the staffroom, the kitchen and food store, the bursar’s office, laboratories, and internet infrastructure.

Speaking after the assessment, Hon. Omondi termed the incident “deeply regrettable,” noting that the losses go beyond physical destruction and pose a major setback to the students’ learning environment and future aspirations.

“This incident underscores the urgent need for dialogue within our schools. Lawlessness cannot be tolerated, as it undermines education, burdens parents with unforeseen costs, and erodes trust between students, teachers, and the wider community,” said the MP.

He urged all stakeholders in the education sector to reflect on the root causes of student unrest and prioritize peaceful mechanisms for addressing grievances.

The legislator further assured the Ambira Boys High School community of his commitment to support restoration efforts and ensure learning resumes smoothly. He revealed that leaders and stakeholders would explore all available avenues to rebuild the damaged infrastructure and strengthen school management systems.

The proposed recovery plan will include enhanced mediation and communication channels within schools, reinforcement of discipline and security measures, and mobilization of support from partners and well-wishers to aid reconstruction.

Hon. Omondi also conveyed his solidarity with students, teachers, and parents affected by the incident, pledging to pursue every possible channel to restore hope, rebuild trust, and uphold the dignity of education in the constituency.
