The Siaya County Assembly Committee on Appointments has successfully concluded the approval hearings for five individuals nominated to serve on a key selection panel, County Assembly Speaker Hon. George Okode has announced. Speaking in his capacity as Chairperson of the Committee on Appointments, Hon. Okode confirmed that the nominees were forwarded by Governor James Orengo to constitute the Selection Panel mandated with recruiting the County Secretary, the Secretary of the County Public Service Board, and Members of the County Public Service Board. According to the Speaker, the vetting exercise was conducted to assess the nominees’ suitability, competence, and integrity in line with constitutional and statutory requirements. The nominees who appeared before the committee include CPA Risper Olick, who has been nominated as the Chairperson of the Panel and is a non-public officer; Mr. Ambala Fred Edward Otieno, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya; Mr. Francis Ochung, representing the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK); Mr. Alphones Castro Okumu, representing the private sector; and Ms. Gladys Olambo Okoth, representing the workers’ union. Hon. Okode noted that the committee has finalized its vetting process and will now prepare a comprehensive report on the findings and recommendations. The report will be tabled before the County Assembly for debate and consideration during a Special Sitting scheduled for next week. The establishment of the selection panel is a critical step in strengthening public service leadership in Siaya County, as it paves the way for the recruitment of senior county officials who play a central role in service delivery and governance. The County Assembly is expected to deliberate on the committee’s report and make a final determination on the approval of the nominees once it is presented to the House.
