Rarieda, Siaya County — Siaya County’s push toward youth empowerment gained fresh momentum as 538 young people graduated from the NYOTA SESD program in a vibrant ceremony attended by Jaramogi Walter Okelo.

The 20-day intensive training, held across Rarieda Sub-county, focused on equipping participants with critical life skills, including social awareness, emotional intelligence, cognitive development, and entrepreneurial capacity. The program aims to prepare young people not only for personal success but also for active, meaningful participation in community development.

Speaking at the event, Okelo described the initiative as a powerful example of what can be achieved when young people are given structured opportunities to grow. He noted that the graduates’ energy, discipline, and determination reflect the untapped potential within Kenya’s youth.

“This is more than just a graduation—it is a celebration of resilience and a commitment to transformation,” he said. “Every investment in young people is a strategic step toward a more inclusive and prosperous future.”

The ceremony highlighted not only academic and personal achievement but also the courage of participants to embrace change and challenge themselves. Graduates expressed optimism about applying their newly acquired skills to improve their livelihoods and contribute positively to their communities.

Okelo reaffirmed his commitment to supporting youth-centered initiatives across Siaya County, emphasizing that sustainable development depends on empowering the next generation with the tools and confidence to lead.

He also welcomed the growing number of young people registering as voters, terming it an encouraging sign of increased civic awareness. According to him, this trend signals a generation ready to actively engage in governance and shape the region’s leadership trajectory.

“As more young people step forward to participate in the democratic process, we are witnessing the rise of a more informed and engaged citizenry,” he added.

The NYOTA SESD graduation stands as a testament to the impact of targeted youth programs in fostering resilience, innovation, and leadership. As Siaya County continues to invest in its young population, stakeholders remain optimistic that such initiatives will play a pivotal role in driving long-term social and economic progress.
