Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, has called on residents of the Nyanza region to reconsider their long-standing political approach and rally behind William Ruto in the upcoming general elections. He emphasized that continued opposition to the national government has slowed development in the region and that a new path of cooperation is necessary to unlock growth opportunities.Speaking on the region’s political direction, Wandayi noted that Nyanza has spent decades distancing itself from government initiatives, a stance he believes has limited access to key investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic programs. According to him, the time has come for the region to adopt a pragmatic approach that prioritizes development and meaningful engagement with the national administration. Wandayi stressed that the call to support President Ruto reflects a growing consensus among leaders and residents who are increasingly determined to secure tangible benefits for their communities. He warned against political narratives that encourage rivalry at the expense of progress, arguing that collaboration with the national government offers the best opportunity for accelerated development. At the same time, the Cabinet Secretary affirmed that the region remains aligned with Oburu Oginga, who he said will continue representing Nyanza’s interests in engagements with the presidency. Wandayi described this approach as a balanced strategy that ensures the region maintains unity while strengthening its bargaining power for development priorities such as energy access, agriculture support, and youth employment. As the country moves closer to the next elections, Wandayi urged Nyanza residents to view their votes as instruments for development and national unity. He maintained that cooperation with the government will position the region to benefit from national programs and ensure its concerns are represented at the highest levels of decision-making.
