Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) has proposed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) picks the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga Winnie Odinga as a deputy party leader.

Speaking on January 3, Aladwa asked ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and acting party leader Oburu Oginga to sit down and consider the proposal.

He added that the party could create an additional position for a fourth deputy party leader, allowing Winnie Odinga to take up the role.

“Party leaders should sit down at the National Executive Committee (NEC) and deliberate on the roles of both Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and acting party leader Oburu Oginga, and agree on the way forward,” he said.

“I have proposed that Winnie Odinga be appointed a deputy party leader. She can fill the position left vacant after the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga exited the Nairobi Delegates Committee. The party can also create a fourth deputy party leader position to accommodate another nominee.”

Currently ODM has three deputy party leaders that include; Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Senator Godfrey Osotsi. ,

Winnie Odinga to Be Made ODM Deputy Party Leader

Aladwa added that the growing tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement’s top leadership, had undermined party unity and risked destabilizing ODM’s structures in Nairobi.

The Makadara Member of Parliament described the situation as regrettable, noting that barely months after the death of former party leader Raila Odinga, individuals entrusted with the party’s leadership were now facing internal squabbles.
